The roots of Nyhan, Bambrick, Kinzie & Lowry, P.C. go back to the late 1950’s when Thomas D. Nyhan joined the Chicago law firm of Pope, Ballard, Shepard & Fowle. Mr. Nyhan started helping out a veteran Pope, Ballard attorney on some workers’ compensation claims for General Motors Corporation, and the rest is history.
Mr. Nyhan’s “helping out” turned into a 35 year journey as he became one of the premier workers’ compensation attorneys in the state of Illinois. While at Pope, Ballard, Mr. Nyhan was joined by Gerry Bambrick, Hank Kinzie, Ed Pfister and Bill Lowry to create a formidable group of workers' compensation attorneys in that firm.
In late January of 1992, Messers Nyhan, Pfister, Bambrick and Kinzie left Pope, Ballard and started the current firm, along with Mr. Lowry and four other attorneys. The current firm officially opened its doors on February 1, 1992. Mr. Nyhan retired at the end of 1994, although he continued to consult with members of the firm on important issues over the years. Mr. Kinzie and Mr. Pfister have recently retired from the firm.
Nyhan, Bambrick, Kinzie & Lowry, P.C. has grown from the nine attorneys who started in early 1992 to its current roster of 28 attorneys. Current shareholder Christopher Gibbons was the first attorney hired out of law school by the firm in August of 1992. Shareholders Thomas Mallers, Dan Ugaste, Jim Moran, and Bob Harrington began successful careers at other firms before joining us in the 1990’s, and Jason Payne arrived in 2003.

Defending claims before the Workers’ Compensation Commission is only one of our functions; our goal is to provide a full range of services to our clients. We view ourselves as problem solvers. As such, we are available to answer questions concerning injuries and problems that arise before a claim is filed and to review and make suggestions concerning accident reporting procedures, the investigative process and claims handling procedures. To this end, we frequently offer seminars for claims management and supervisory personnel.
